Gadisa Gado is married and has six children, four of whom live at home. He has been a farmer all his life and walks to his land for 1.5 hours every day. “I’m glad I have my own land, because that’s a guarantee that I will have food for as long as I live,” he says. Gadiso’s land is too far from the Awash River to benefit from it. Sometimes the family has to do without water and electricity for weeks. The farmer has set his hopes on a canal near his land.
